Carla Carlisle
When she married Kenneth Carlisle in 1986, Carla's dowry consisted of a labrador named Adam and an apocalyptic vision of the future of English farming. It was that gloomy prospect that led her to plant a vineyard that now produced some of the best wines in England and to convert the 400-year-old barn into a vineyard restaurant and country store.
In her weekly ‘Spectator’ column for COUNTRY LIFE, Carla writes about farming, literature, politics, and life in the country. The first collection of these columns, South Facing Slope, published by the Snakeshead Press, is available by mail order from the Leaping Hare (telephone 01359 250287).
